Sunday morning, pulling in to WFPC, I couldn’t help but notice how much noise the daffodils were making; they are evidently very excited about the possibility of the beginning of spring. The temperature may be plummeting again today, but the Presbyterian daffs are holding themselves tall and resilient, standing witness to the insistent fact of new life that’s bursting forth all over our church campus. Now that’s a statement of faith!
Then, inside, I was privileged to see even more evidence of vibrant life. The 9:00 Praise Service was a powerful worship experience that left tears in my eyes; the “Daily Walk” class I teach with Marv Baker touched my heart with their open spirits, insight, and enthusiasm; then, at Traditional Worship, the hymn-singing, the message, and the choir all spoke deep truth and peace to my soul.

At both services, Rebekah’s children’s moment played the same role as the daffodils outside: small children, bursting with joy, standing witness to the insistent fact of new life that’s bursting forth all over our church campus. Our children are a huge statement of faith.
MONDAY: So, friends, it’s another Monday morning. What can we learn from the stand the daffodils take in favor of life, and from the strong witness of the children?
I think I know. Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.”

Children approach each new day with open hearts, and with accepting spirits; they stand like spring daffodils, just blooming their hearts out in response to the invitation that is life.
As for me – I want to take my stand with the children.
