- First, from the statistics side of this blog, I’m excited to report that Life, Gratitude, Faith, & Passion has now passed the “4,000 followers” mark. Now if only a few of you would buy a couple of my books, then maybe my publisher would be just as excited as I am!
GARDENING: This morning – Saturday – marks the end of a delightfully refreshing four-day cool-weather run here in Wake Forest, where the temperatures barely crawled out of the low 70’s. I’ve got to tell you, for this recent Florida resident, low-70’s in June has been a treat I couldn’t possibly have imagined before the move.
It’s also been overcast and damp, making for good growing weather in our nascent garden. So today I’m sharing a few photos of our “work in progress” with the promise of more as it all begins to take shape over the next few years.
Having finished the fence project, goal number one is to develop a diverse border, rich in color and texture. We’re not interested in uniformity, nor in sporting a pristine manicured look. Instead, we have put in a variety of local plants – shrubs and flowers we’ve been dying to enjoy, but could never grow around Tampa. There is a lot of, “experiment this,” “rearrange that,” “try the other thing,” and “let’s see what happens with this” in the evolving design. So far I like it a lot.
Essentially, then, this garden is going to be a hybrid work of imagination and hope. The “grand design” is mostly about seeing what’s going to grow, although some architectural elements will likely emerge as the borders begin to take shape and our learning curve straightens out.
JUST LIKE CHURCH: Much like our new church, the life, the growth, the composition, the appearance and feel, the constituent parts, the look of the future, will all come together at the behest and the breath of the Spirit. We’re not looking to engineer any particular pre-arranged product – we’re simply committed to growth, and new life, and the imaginative work of the Spirit of God.
Just hang around this site for a few weeks, you’ll get a feel for what I’m talking about – DEREK
