And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. – Philippians 4:8
This morning’s topic is “cuteness.” I know, that doesn’t sound like the best subject matter for a serious blog about discipleship. But this is a world fraught with anger, and cynicism, and tragedy, and epic disaster scenarios; there’s a reason people post so many cat videos and dog stories on line; adorable is God’s gift in the face of hateful and offensive.
Fasten (rivet, paste) your attention on what is cute, and adorable, and engaging, and delightful, and redemptive, and pleasing, and admirable. Invest your mind and your spirit in things that are exemplary, ideas and images that simply make people smile.
Beks Goes to Pre-School!
So, with that said, Our granddaughter Beks started preschool this week. Seriously, people, I could simply post the (above) picture of Ms. All That, copy the scripture, then hit “publish” – and I could be done for the morning!
Then, if that were not enough, David went to his first soccer practice/game/rave/free-for-all… There was, apparently, more butterfly chasing than actual soccer, but everyone involved had a great time.
I can’t wait to attend one of their “games.” There really is nothing quite like a swarm of five-year-olds, moving around a field, in vague relation to a ball that may or may not be heading towards a particular point of interest such as a set of goal posts.
Finally, Her Dogness is, I believe, taking every advantage of her new role as “elderly with privileges.” The sofa – when she can muster the strength to climb up – is her throne, including any pillows that happen to available.
The other day she asked to come outside when I was doing yard work. She made it to the front sidewalk, lay down in the shade, and did not move for two full hours!
Scout is, however, adorable beyond reason. She just makes us smile.
So that is my devotional word for today, Tuesday September 12, 2017. Seek out things that make you smile. Pay attention to the good. Share images and ideas that are beautiful and redemptive. Invest your mind and your spirit in things that are exemplary. Promote ideas and images that simply make people smile; “if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things….“
