Life is Difficult:

Sometimes the details of life can be irritating… or demanding… or unsettling… or overwhelming – sometimes all this and more. This is when I am deeply thankful for beautiful, cool, clear morning such as this one.

We barely stay on top of all the tasks involved in maintaining our garden. However, the trees are always beautiful, something always seems to be blooming, and the deck is shady and inviting irrespective of the length of the grass and the enthusiastic progress of the weeds.

God is Good:

At this moment – mid-morning – the temperature is an inviting 73-degrees and the humidity is in the 50’s; there’s gentle breeze rustling the leaves, there’s a fresh cup of coffee in my hand, and nothing else is as important as this reassuring understanding I have that, “It is well with my soul.”

Not necessarily well with the gutter that needs fixing, or the plumbing that needs attention, or the television that’s on the fritz, or the various challenges that make ministry both difficult and necessary; but well with my soul.

And that is enough. I pray that, this day, it is well with your soul too – Derek
