Something from Mother’s Day, and a Prayer
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever. – Psalm 23:6

For me, the best thing about Mother’s Day is thinking about the amazing fact that Rebekah and I have this beautiful family.
Just a few decades ago we were a couple of 23-year-olds squeezed into a two-room apartment. Then there were two children (Andrew and Naomi), then they started their own families, and now there are grandchildren too.
On the other side of the equation there is still, even though I am 64-years-old, my own mum living next door.

So, in the light of all these blessings, let me share this prayer with you from Sunday morning’s class on Psalm 23. Because we couldn’t do this without the Good Shepherd. Being a mother, a mom, a mama, or a mum takes on another dimension when we follow the Shepherd. Living this life as people of faith, walking what can sometimes be a difficult path, moving from green pastures to dark valleys to celebrations of life and beyond…
Thank you, Lord God, for all the ways you lead us. Today we are grateful for your patient guidance, like a shepherd. Please encourage us, correct us when necessary, and lead us to quiet waters where our souls are restored. We ask that you hold us close in the dark valleys, and follow us with goodness and love so that we know your blessing as a constant in our lives. We come before you today because we find such assurance in your word, and our experience with Jesus affirms every promise you have given to us. Thank you, and Amen
