Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power
1 Chronicles 29:11
and the glory and the majesty and the splendor,
for everything in heaven and earth is yours.
Yours, Lord, is the kingdom;
you are exalted as head over all.
Happy Sunday, friends! This morning all I have is this short devotional thought. But it is Sunday, and devotion is the best place for our hearts and minds to be focused.
It is too easy to get so lost in all the politics, and the culture wars, and the bickering over doctrine, and the constant rush to judgment to the extent that we forget the simple reason God sent Jesus and why The Church even exists.
God sent Jesus because we need saving! As human beings, we were imagined, designed, created, and born into this Good Earth for the purpose of – as the Westminster Shorter Catechism reminds us – Glorifying God and enjoying God forever.
To that end this morning I am remembering who God is through these beautiful words of praise from First Chronicles.
And, also to that end, Rebekah and I will be attending church. At church we will enthusiastically glorify God and – in the presence of such a positive faith community – we will absolutely enjoy our salvation too.
That’s it. Don’t forget the basics. Don’t forget to thank God for this gift of life and the gift of more life through Jesus – DEREK
