“Is anything too wonderful for the Lord?”

Is anything too wonderful for the Lord?

Genesis 18:14
-Bayou Texar Sunday morning

It’s pretty clear to me I’m going to fall behind quickly when it comes to keeping up with this Pensacola adventure. So for now I have to pick and choose what I post, then get back up to speed over the next couple of weeks.

So I guess I will begin with Sunday morning, getting up for a walk before breakfast by the bayou and then heading in to Trinity Presbyterian Church for morning worship.

Trinity Presbyterian Church:

– Rev Hugh Hamilton and Rebekah

Trinity, if you didn’t already know, was our first church right out of Columbia Seminary. We moved to Pensacola in 1982, when Rebekah was called to work with Frank Beall as associate pastor. It was a remarkable 14 years, where we were blessed to participate in cutting edge discipleship, creative mission, tremendous growth, and a uniquely powerful ministry with young families.

Our good friend Hugh Hamilton – who has served as senior pastor there for more than two decades – greeted us and we were thrilled to see so many familiar faces.

Hugh preached an excellent message from Genesis 18; his theme was joy and laughter in our experience of faith. But my take from the morning was more that of the rhetorical question in the text, “Is anything too wonderful for the Lord?”

Of course the answer is “no, nothing is too wonderful for the Lord!” More than that, the answer is really more along the lines of “keep your eyes open and you can’t possible miss the wonder… and the joy… and the laughter.” And “keep your heart wide open too!” and “keep your spirit aware of and alert to what God is up to!”

This is wonderful, certainly. This being here with Rebekah and David and Beks, and drinking in a little of the Pensacola magic.

So, “Wonderful Monday to you all, readers!” Is anything too wonderful for the Lord? – DEREK

Here are photos from my morning walk, and from church. Our most excellent afternoon adventure will have to wait. It’s all good. It’s all wonderful.

  1. Derek and Rebekah, what a thrill it was to have y’all worship with us and to see so many people hug and kiss you and reminisce with you! Thank you for bringing your grandchildren to the pulpit with you when y’all updated everyone as to your lives since your days at Trinity. May y’all have a bright and beautiful time with your grandchildren this week. As to “Is anything too wonderful for the Lord?” No, God works miracles we may witness if we are open to see, expect to see, look to see, even amidst our ordinary days. May Abraham and Sarah’s laughter ring in your hearts for years to come and may God’s providence sustain and bless you and Rebekah! Thank you for a marvelous reunion!
