When you’re visiting Pensacola, the last day always has to finish up at the beach – I believe it’s some kind of a law! It’s where we started – the day we rolled into town, and then Wednesday evening the beach magic rounded things off to perfection.
We drove all the way in to the National Park, where we pretty much had the beach to ourselves.
It was another big day all around. This was the agenda:
- Breakfast on the porch
- Live Oak National Park
- McGuire’s Irish Pub for lunch
- Afternoon rest
- Tour of Fort Pickens
- The beach
The beach always leaves you wanting more, wanting to stay, wanting to come back. It was also the perfect way – at 6:00, breezy and with the temperatures dropping -to recover from the heat of Fort Pickens.
It’s been a long time since I last played in the water, but it felt so very good. Blue-green emerald seas, pristine white sands, the sun dropping quickly in the west, two beautiful grandchildren bouncing around.
We arrived back at the house well after dark; exhausted, refreshed, happy, and sad that this time together is winding to a close.
Fort Pickens is a whole other set of photographs I will post another day. Live Oak National Seashore too. There is always so much to photograph and to write about when life is this rich, and I am grateful for the privilege to enjoy these wonderful grandchildren and to share our stories.
In love, and because of love – DEREK

We have great memories of Pensacola and Trinity Presbyterian Church which is where we met you two. It’s been fun watching your grandchildren grow through your photos!
Can’t believe it’s been 27 years!!!
I know! We’ve been out of the Navy and in Dallas for almost 17 years now. And I do love the part of the country where you are now!
What great fun and making memories. Family love!!!
