The heavens declare the glory of God;
– Psalm 19:1-2
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.
One of the many things I love about our daughter Naomi is her ability to see her children – our grandchildren – through the eyes not only of love but of an artist.
Naomi is gifted in several different media – from watercolors to acrylic to ink to stained glass – but it is her application of these gifts to the way she sees, or frames, the children that touches me most deeply.
This week the family are at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort. Naomi captured images of the children in the early evening light down by the water. Of course Rebekah and I are crazy about David, Beks, and Geoffrey because they are our grandchildren… but there is something extra in these images and I think I know what it is.
It’s why I have chosen these photographs for this Sunday morning post. The pictures are lovely, the children are beautiful, and the scene is idyllic… But it all points to something more, it points to creation and to The Creator – our Creator. It points to God.
I believe that God uses gifts like Naomi’s – spiritual gifts, in my estimation – to speak truth into our world, into our experience; and, through those of us who recognize the divine, into those who are seeking.
This is part of God’s invitation, and I am grateful to help to deliver the message.
In love and because of love – DEREK
