“The Lord bless you
Numbers 6:24-26
and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”
It is always hard to say “goodbye.” Especially when it is your son and his family and you know they will be heading back to the Middle East at the end of the summer.
But, Rebekah and I had a most excellent visit. We were able to spend a little more time with Mr. T. – our “Mr. International” grandson, and for that we are most grateful.
I have to tell you, I had this moment – waving goodbye and seeing the little family on the beautiful green grass outside their very own home (the first house they have purchased) and realizing that their front lawn is right here in the United States – when I got a lump in my throat and I thought about the fact that, yes, they are very much Citizens of the World but now and for the first time in their adult lives they are anchored here at home….
Yes, Michigan. Yes, 800 miles away. But not somewhere else in the world. And now they have this new gravitational pull, this tethering, and it is right here in America.
So we drove away and we have spent the night in Detroit and they are still there in Midland, still here in America; and we know our grandson Mr. T. some more; and we have our two children, their lovely spouses, and all four grandchildren and we are all in the same country for at least the next couple of months, and we are thankful and blessed and full.
That’s all. Let’s see what Monday (today) has to bring over at the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation.
Peace to all – DEREK
