JFK’s Limo, Presidential Train, 50’s Convertibles, and Rosa Parks’ Bus

Remember the former things, those of long ago;
    I am God, and there is no other;
    I am God, and there is none like me.

Meanwhile, back in Detroit…. There are so many great photographs I could share from the Ford Museum. I offered a brief overview July 11 (“Henry Ford… Inspiration…“) but there is still so much to cover I almost don’t know where to begin!

For today, then, just enjoy these images from the “transportation” part of the collection.

Obviously, I couldn’t photograph everything we looked at! So, instead, I just recorded images of the exhibits that really grabbed my attention – either visually or historically – the artifacts that touched or overwhelmed me.

This gallery begins with the car JFK was assassinated in, then the distinctive 1939 Lincoln “Sunshine Special” Limousine used by Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The massive steam locomotive is an “Allegheny Class,” one of the most powerful ever built. The yellow seam engine is Stephenson’s “Rocket”, then there is a gargantuanCanadian snow plough, and Rebekah in the Allegheny driver’s seat too.

The race car section features amazing examples of pristine restorations, and then I feature a little classic Americana before – and you can read more about this later when I post about the civil rights section – the Rosa Parks bus, discovered, purchased, and restored at unprecedented expense!

Enjoy this visual glimpse into the history of American transportation. Then come back for more from our epic vacation – DEREK
