“A day in the life…” Photo Friday Goes to Tarboro

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

James 1:17
– Beks and David

Yes, I am capturing a lot of cool images here in Tarboro. Photographs that tell the story of our first few days in this town, and the genuine sense of hospitality we are feeling from the good folk who call this place home.

Photo Friday this week is all about embracing our new situation; well, with one exception. I absolutely have to lead with this great picture of David and Beks, taken by Naomi in Orlando earlier in the week.

So far, over the twelve years Rebekah and I have been grandparents, I have often said something like “Stop growing!” or “This is my favorite age!” or, “There is no chance they will ever be this cute, (or this photogenic, or this beautiful) again…” I have said it a bunch of times; but I am always wrong. Along comes another year, another photograph, another stage of life and here they go again!

Of course the Tarboro shots are cool too. So take a moment to scroll through “A day in the life.”

Here is the day, in sequence:

First, Rebekah goes to work; it is below freezing but – as the second image shows – her commute is not too far!

Then Max and I took a walk past the always interesting vistas around the Calvary Episcopal Church grounds.

After that it was off to Scotfield Golf Course to play a chilly but beautiful 18 holes with Leo, one of the guys I met at the men’s Bible study. For some reason most of my swings were pretty good, and I was able to card a respectable score.

Later, you can see how Max worked his way (stealthily) onto the sofa where he kept an eye out for Rebekah coming home at the end of the day.

Finally, taking our late night hike through downtown, Max and I stop to admire the community tree on the Tarboro Courthouse Square, another on the Town Common, and Main Street beginning to dress up for Christmas.

Keep following this space over the next few days and weeks for more about Tarboro, along with a devotional journey through the season of Advent.

Take time out to drive out this way for worship this weekend on the first Sunday in Advent, at 11:00 AM. This will be Rebekah’s first message at Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church, and a great way to kick off the month-long holiday celebrations.

In love, and because it is love that made Christmas possible to begin with – DEREK
