Notes from a good weekend

– Riverfront Park; not “by” the Tar but “in” the Tar

Sunday morning my walk with Max was impacted by the combination of two factors. First, the absurdness that is turning the clock forward to take away one hour of precious morning sleep, and then the fact that the Tar is spilling its banks again and the low lying woods where we walk are a little damp.

It makes for interesting photography. I love the dark blues and the slightest hint of light coming in over the horizon.

Goodness and kindness:

– Sunday morning worship, March 10h

We had a lot more light by the time we got to church, where Rebekah is continuing her excellent sermon series on the Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians. The most important point she continues to make is that these are not things we try to “do” in order to earn our way into God’s good graces; these are evidences that God is alive in us and at work both in and through our lives.

If we live as followers of Jesus to the extent that, wherever we are, God consistently shows up, then this week’s words – goodness and kindness – will always be in play.

Last week’s message was a blessing to many of you. I have no doubt that this week’s will be too: (You can see it here Rebekah’s message March 10 – beginning at 33:30).

Stepping out in Bahrain:

– Mr. t. taking The Qal’at al-Bahrain

Today I am very excited to be able to share this collection of photographs from Bahrain, featuring our four-year-old grandson, Mr. T., exploring The Qal’at al-Bahrain – the Bahrain Fort (likely dating from the Dilmun civilization).

We don’t get a lot of Mr. T. sightings, let alone images we can share in my blog. So enjoy. I love the way he strides around with such confidence. This is a great big beautiful world we live in, and he is learning to love it – just like his parents and grandparents.

Dinner with Friends:

Rebekah and I rounded out our Sunday by enjoying a delightful dinner, graciously hosted by friends from church.

Lynn and Michael recently built an expansive porch on the back of their home; it was the perfect setting for hors d’oeuvres and conversation while they put the finishing touches on dinner in the dining room.

– Rebekah on the Taylors’ deck

My definition of a memorable evening is good food and great conversation. There were seven of us around the table and Rebekah and I were more than satisfied on all counts.

A wonderful church, gracious hospitality, excellent food, stimulating conversation, and a beautiful North Carolina early spring evening. Yes, life is beautiful.

Grateful and full – DEREK
