“Photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.”
Elliott Erwitt
I was tempted – for today’s Photo Friday post – to share a “best of” from the past few days. It really was a good week for photos. But instead I’ll do the usual and share some great photos that didn’t make any of my stories this week.
We can save the “best of the best” for my end of the month roundup in another week. I can guarantee it will be one of the most interesting to date.
Let’s start with the eggs. You know, when next door has chickens and you have a business arrangement with the kid who lives there. I don’t know if his responsibilities go beyond delivery, but he is absolutely Johnny on the Spot when I go for my wallet! The money always manages to end up in his hand and – quickly – his pocket!
This week was Spring Break in Orlando, so the grandchildren got to hang out at the Disney Beach Club Resort. They left the theme parks to the millions traveling from out of state.
Our daughter Naomi has a great eye for photography; but my favorite of the week was the screenshot I grabbed while on FaceTime with ten-year-old Beks.
Geoffrey, as you can tell, is starting to grow fast from a toddler into a little boy. He is – and this is completely appropriate language to use with a boy – beautiful.
But they all are. Rebekah and I have absolutely hit the jackpot when it comes to grandchildren. David, Beks, Geoffrey, and Mr. T. over in Bahrain.
Woodworking for Mission:
I may come back to this with more detail on a later post. I enjoyed a good visit with my friend Edward Roberson Thursday, as Max and I took a walk to check out a creative woodworking project he is completing for the upcoming “Arts in the Garden” event at the church, Saturday April 27.
Ed has taken wood – over 100 years old – from the original 1913 organ consul and is repurposing it to build a variety of original items. I was especially drawn to several bookends he has created.
The garden at the Roberson house is exquisite, and I plan to ask if I can photograph it extensively once the color comes in and the trees begin to leaf. But I will tease it with a couple of images in the gallery, below.
Light and more light:
Finally, this sun-soaked image of our church from last weekend. I have discovered that this faith community gives off a lot of light too, and I will never tire of sharing the good news of good people doing good work because God is good.
So that is all the news this week from Tarboro, where spring is springing and the church is churching and Rebekah and Derek are up to their eyeballs in life!
“Photography is not about cameras, gadgets and gizmos. Photography is about photographers. A camera didn’t make a great picture any more than a typewriter wrote a great novel.”
Peter Adams
