And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.
Colossians 2:6-7
Today I’m going to continue the “isn’t springtime beautiful” theme that has emerged out of the past few weeks. These photographs, however, are less carefully framed and more of an intuitive or impressionistic reaction to the world around me as I run into it.
I have especially enjoyed the wildflowers this week. To some people they are weeds, but to me there is something heroic about their stubborn resistance to mowing, borders, intentional planting and formal landscaping. Also, wildflowers are a very important encouragement for our beleaguered bee population.
Many of the homes in the immediate neighborhood lean a little – how should I say this? – “freeform” in their gardening plans. Azalea bushes that spill over into other features; trees with maybe a little room for pruning; sidewalks without clearly defined edges; unintentional plantings galore. The whole “overgrown but charming” vibe come to life!
I may change my opinion later in the summer, but at the moment there is something authentic and engaging about the look as I walk Max and sometimes remember to take photographs.
Busy and overgrown!
So here we are, four and a half months into the Tarboro year. It was winter when we arrived and now we are well into spring. It has been busy, very busy, and we don’t see any sign of that letting up.
But that fits us well, because Rebekah and I don’t see following Jesus as seasonal. Besides, it’s not just the flowers and the trees we like to see full with new life, we could all benefit from the kind of growth The Spirit brings.
Not necessarily manicured and edged, though, our garden tends to be freeform too; and, come to think of it, “a little overgrown but charming” isn’t a bad look in the pews, either!
Enjoy the images, and let’s try to keep our eyes open for the beauty that’s just waiting for us to be paying attention.
Peace and love – DEREK

I have heard that in Heaven the roses don’t have thorns and neither do cactuses, none of the plants are pokey and all are soft and gentle to the touch. It reminds me of Disney’s Sleeping Beauty when Maleficent uses the powers of hell to make thorns to try to stop Prince Philip from getting to Princess Aurora. We don’t have to worry about bug bites either. Paradise! Sincerely, ALASUN🌞
Bee friendly!
gotta love the bees!
