Finding a Place to Begin (a Video segment from my new book)

But the love of the Lord remains forever
    with those who fear him.
His salvation extends to the children’s children
of those who are faithful to his covenant,
of those who obey his commandments! – Psalm 103:17-18

– busy at the computer, writing

Sometimes there is just so much to share. I have some stuff from Sunday… I have some more photographs… I have some important thoughts about our country and about healing and in response to some of what God is showing me in the scriptures… So much.

In consequence I may have to let this new post drop this afternoon (Monday), just to give myself room to move on Tuesday morning!

Today has turned out to be a big writing day. I have made a lot of positive progress in my new book and so I recorded a short segment to play back for myself to see how the story is sounding.

Before I share, let me set a little context. I am up to page two hundred already (I have 48,000 words so far) but had not been sure where the thread – the unifying idea that should run through a manuscript – needs to be anchored. Then I thought about my baptism; it’s a story I have explored often recently and there is a lot there in terms of perspective and rootedness.

Reading an excerpt from the new book:

– six minutes from my memoir

So here it is. When the manuscript is complete it looks like this segment will likely find its place at the very beginning.

Six and a half minutes from my memoir; I hope you enjoy listening. Feedback would be a big help, please, and especially as regards the following question: “Does listening to this make it more or less likely that you would be interested in reading the book once it is ready?”

And, if you are a traditional publisher or have contacts, I am absolutely in the market.

Peace and love and more peace – DEREK
