Tarboro “Snow Day” Part Two. Not a complete bust!

– early morning behind the Presbyterian Church

By the breath of God ice is given,
and the broad waters are frozen fast. – Job 37:10

– the Mayo home through the ice

I think the two coolest photographs I took first thing this morning were of homes – through the frame of icy branches on the trees. My focus was the ice, but the effect on the houses, slightly blurry in the background, made for interesting images.

Max and I woke up early for our morning walk, hoping to find several inches of snow inviting iconic winter images.

Like so many people we were disappointed. However, and in response to what I have already written today (“Can we let a little wonder creep in?“), I kept my eyes and my spirit open. Because there is no such thing as a day without any opportunity to find beauty.

Then, as you can see in this series of photographs, the morning begins to creep in and the ice on the branches starts to capture the light. Again, beauty is not about what is obvious so much as what I am open to seeing.

I pray that your day is filled with unexpected beauty and light. Because it is all about opening our eyes and our spirits and letting it in – DEREK
