The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it;
for he founded it on the seas
and established it on the waters. – Psalm 24
As February begins I am going to share a short walk Rebekah and took this morning, wandering up Saint Patrick Street then along through the Town Common and back again.
It was beautiful weather, with mostly clear skies and temperatures around 60. We essentially reoriented ourselves to the scope of Tarboro’s expansive historic district and enjoyed the beauty of this day.
With so much negativity floating around it’s important to remember what there is for us to celebrate. So I thought we could intentionally breathe it all in.
- The fact of this lovely small town;
- The amazing spirit of strength and purpose at our church;
- The full sanctuary for worship this past Sunday;
- The 30 guys who showed up Tuesday morning for men’s Bible study;
- The strong crowd at the women’s study Wednesday;
- The progress on our house;
- The multiple investments in renovations and restorations all around us.
First we stopped by our “Future MaulHall” project on Saint Patrick. Then we took a look at what’s going on at the (potentially) gorgeous 1881 “Pender House” on Church Street, just around the corner. In the past couple of weeks the roof has been replaced, rotten siding removed, and reconstruction launched on the wrap-around porch.
There is a lot going on to make the neighborhood glad.
The Earth is the Lord’s
Then we meandered through the common, drinking in the fresh air of such a spectacular day.
Rebekah and I are reading through the Psalms for our morning devotions, and a selection from earlier in the week came to mind: Psalm 24. The earth really is the Lord’s and God has made it abundantly full.
Take a deep breath, world (and the good folk of Tarboro) and let’s all give thanks – DEREK
