Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. – Romans 12:2a
Rebekah and I spent most of this weekend over in Wake Forest for the wedding of a young woman who grew up as part of our church. We love her parents like family so there was no question but that we would be there.
More on the wedding when I have a little time to write, but for this morning I want to share this post about Sunday.
“Derek & Rebekah go to Church” – in Farmville:
Back when Rebekah retired (August 1, 2021) we spent the first few months visiting churches in the region and listening to our friends preach. We attended somewhere different almost every week, hence the series. It picks up just about every time we are out of town (Derek & Rebekah go to Church).
We woke up Sunday morning exhausted (both from the festivities and the move) and – after a fleeting moment considering church on line – decided to drive over to the Presbyterian Church in Farmville.
We took a beautiful indirect route, found a parking spot, and walked through the front doors literally at the stroke of 11:00.
What we found there was yet another faithful Presbyterian congregation gathered for worship, engaged in mission, and doing life together the best they can as recipients and tellers of the Good News Story.
This is why Rebekah and I attend worship every Sunday morning we possibly can. Because – regardless of life circumstances or political leanings or demographic mix – it is good to be in worship and fellowship with other believers.
The people were welcoming and friendly, the pastor – John “Rocky” Stone – gave a good message about being transformed by the renewing of our minds, and it is obvious that this is another one of those Christ-centered congregations that continue to make me grateful to be a Presbyterian Christian.
So, wherever you are and whatever is going on, if you got to church Sunday morning you will find – and remember – that God is present, Jesus is Lord, and the Spirit fills the sanctuary with light and love and grace and encouragement.
He is all I need,
He is all I need;
Jesus is all I need.
He is all I need,
He iss all I need;
Jesus is all I need.
Believe me, I need this; I imagine that you do too – DEREK

Prayer of Intersession for July 4 2025.jpg
Lord, You are sovereign over nations and rulers.
As America approaches this solemn Independence Day, we come not in fear, but in faith, believing You are still mighty to save. We repent for the pride, division, and violence in our land. Forgive us, O God. Have mercy on this nation. Protect our leaders, whether they seek You or not, and guide their hearts toward justice, truth, and peace. Surround our country with Your divine protection. In Jesus name. Amen
That’s a good prayer, thanks.
Peace – Derek
