Happy are those whose way is blameless,
who walk in the law of the Lord.
Happy are those who keep his decrees,
who seek him with their whole heart,
who also do no wrong,
but walk in his ways. – Psalm 119:1-3
This morning I met with the Men’s Bible Study for our final gathering. It has been an extremely positive and affirming 18-month journey together.
After working with the guys for a few months I was concerned I would run out of stuff to share. But that was the false assumption that I was teaching. Instead, it turns out that we were learning together, and owning such an orientation of spirit means there is always enough to talk about and never enough time. Tuesday mornings we simply scratch the surface of what God is showing us through the scriptures.
My final thought today was that, during the June/July break, we should all ask God to lead us in ways we would not begin to imagine if we were writing the script ourselves.
The good news is that I am still a member of Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church. And so, even though Rebekah and I will make ourselves less visible this summer, I still plan to show up when the Men’s Bible Study meets again in August. Where I sit is going to depend on what the church leadership looks like at that moment, and if the new pastor (temporary or installed) plans to teach. Regardless, I am wide open.
For today I am simply grateful to have had this opportunity to explore the scriptures with this good group of motivated and faithful men. This is the church, these are disciples, this is what it looks like to follow Jesus…
…and I am immeasurably blessed – DEREK

As far as I’m concerned, you do a wonderful job of leading our Bible study! Hope you will be back at the head of the table in August.
You are too kind! It is easy to work with such open spirits!
