Tarboro puts on its best for our family

– birthday present for Andrew

Friday provided a little welcome relief from the extreme heat as well as an opportunity to show our son Andrew and his family what makes us love Tarboro so much.

So that meant helping walk Max in the early morning, a walking tour of the historic district, a detailed look at all the renovations here at the house, a super-fun afternoon splashing around in our friends’ swimming pool, taking Andrew for a celebratory beer at TBC and then the marvelous birthday dinner at On the Square.

In the span of just 12-hours, the entire family got a good taste of what makes this place so very special. But what really makes the difference here, and what gives Tarboro its beating heart and soul, is the engaging friendliness of the people who live here. Not just a polite nod or wave of the hand but a genuine interest.

In consequence, Andrew’s quick visit to the Tarboro Brewing Company on the way to dinner turned into really great conversation with a semi-circle of friendly and interested folk. And it is genuine. People actually work at community here and it shows.

Again, at the restaurant in the evening, we had the opportunity to introduce our family to so many good people who walked in and immediately headed our way to greet Andrew and Alicia.

Thanks, Tarboro, for living up to your billing. Now they know we weren’t making it up when we said what a cool town this is!

So be blessed, and stay cool this weekend, friends, it’s going to be a hot one – DEREK
