“The earth is art, the photographer is only a witness.”
– Yann Arthus-Bertrand
Today is “Photo Friday” and I have a handful of really cool images to share.
This photograph from Church Street is one of my favorites – especially in light of last week’s widely-viewed post (10K hits) featuring some of our challenges here in the historic district.
The Pender House project is making progress, and I took this view during an afternoon walk. I love the way the light filters through the leaves and plays off the fresh paint and the columns on the front porch.
It is not the only Church Street house getting a new paint job. Our neighbor, on the corner of Church and Saint Patrick, is having extensive exterior work done too.
The crew is scraping loose paint, cutting out and replacing rotten boards, dealing with mold and mildew and properly priming. All before applying that new coat of color.
I’m confident the local contractor, Faith Painting, will make sure our neighbor’s iconic home receives the care and attention it deserves. I will absolutely share more images when the work is complete.
Grandchildren:
It doesn’t seem possible that it has been so many weeks since our epic visit with the grandchildren. But they are already well into the new school year and continuing to grow every day! Mr. T. in Krakow; David, Beks and Geoffrey in Orlando.
This is a great photograph because it includes Matt, who was “the kid down the street” when we lived in Brandon, Florida, and friends with both our children – Andrew and Naomi. Matt visits every once in a while and our grandchildren love him.
Positive Focus:
I say something like this every time I talk about photography, but I believe this idea comprises such an important message that I will throw it out there again.
What we see, and how we see, depends so much on the lens we look through. For me, I cannot help but search for the beauty and the goodness and the love that it is so easy to overlook when our focus is constantly on the negative.
So I am encouraging each one of us to wake up every morning and ask God to help us to see clearly.
There is so much wonder and love and goodness and beauty to be grateful for – DEREK
