“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.”

The older I get the longer a 550 mile drive feels! This makes me very much grateful for the more comfortable ride the Subaru gives us, along with the navigation aids and sound system and all the tech helping to keep us safe as we careen along at speeds vaguely approximating the legal speed limit…
First we took a detour to Youngsville so that Max could have a birthday party with some friends and stay for his own vacation at his favorite holiday resort.
Then it was a long way down I-95, lunch at our favorite sandwich place in Florence, a long way across I-20 and then on down I-85 to Newnan – another hour beyond Atlanta.
Supper – location a last-minute decision based on necessity – turned out to be a serendipity when Rebekah and I found a gem of a Chick-fil-A in Newnan that somehow managed to elevate what is already a consistently good experience and far exceed our expectations.
Not Haute Cuisine so much as Haute fil-A. But appreciated nonetheless!
This Chick-fil-A offers the option of a small diner with full service at one end of the store. So Rebekah and I got all the good Chick-fil-A vibes plus menus, real silverware and wait-service at the table.
My splendid chicken sandwich, plus the amazing lunch we enjoyed in Florence, factored in with only a couple of short walks and no bicycle riding has me already in potential trouble when it comes to my goal of getting back below 170-pounds by the end of May.
But it’s okay. Rebekah and I are road-tripping together and it is going to be an amazing ten days or so of enjoying each other’s company and being with people we love.
And, as we log in maybe a couple of thousand miles and spend a fortune on gasoline, let’s remember Mark Twain’s always timely words (below).
Stay tuned for something new we learn every day along the way.
Peace and love – DEREK
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of [people] and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.”
Mark Twain
