A look at the Tar River today… before Imelda

– The Tar, looking downstream Friday morning

Don’t be anxious about anything; rather, bring up all of your requests to God in your prayers and petitions, along with giving thanks. Then the peace of God that exceeds all understanding will keep your hearts and minds safe in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7

– Derek Maul and Max walk by the Tar whenever they can

During the summer months Max and I tend to walk in the direction of the Town Common and away from the Tar, as there tend to be far too many mosquitoes on the prowl around Riverfront Park. But Friday morning, curious as to any effect from Thursday evening’s rain, we strolled down to the Main Street bridge and took a couple of photographs.

Rebekah and I have been in Tarboro almost two years now and I have not seen the river nearly this low before. My guess is we will witness substantial change to that scenario over the next week.

So – if you are interested – these pictures can serve as your baseline prior to the advent of Imelda… or whatever tropical rainmaker drifts this way over the coming days.

This is the view standing in the middle of the Main Street Bridge (and I am absolutely disgusted, by the way, at the embarrassing amount of trash and broken glass we have to navigate to get there. Note to the Town of Tarboro: it’s a good civic business decision to keep the front door clean).

The photo timestamps are 6:52 AM and 6:55 AM September 26.

Conditions permitting, I plan to take followup images this time next week. In the meanwhile, please do the following:

  • Stay safe and dry,
  • Remain at peace with your neighbor,
  • Practice kindness in all your interactions,
  • Cultivate a thankful heart,
  • Love generously,
  • Always put your trash where it belongs,
  • Keep reading these posts.

This is DEREK, posting from Tarboro: still new here, still doing my best to take it all in, still loving this town, still grateful…
