Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. – Romans 15:7
This weekend we got to share a little bit of our Tarboro life with Rebekah’s youngest brother Jesse and his wife, Heather. They rolled in Saturday in time for dinner and were able to attend worship with us at HMPC Sunday morning.
The heavy rains stopped us from giving the walking tour but our guests were able to get a little bit of a taste for how hospitable and serene our adopted hometown is.
Jesse is both an ordained pastor and an engineer. Recently his focus has been been on designing practical, affordable housing and his latest project involves groundbreaking innovations that will lead, hopefully, to a lot of actual ground being broken. Heather – a teacher – currently works with the media center at a Jacksonville elementary school.
Our home is getting to know us
It is always good to welcome people into our home and especially family. Every house we have lived in has been fun to share, but this one feels as if it has absorbed not just our stuff but the character of our life together – as if the house understands its part in telling the story of Rebekah and Derek.
Of course our story is very much still being written. When I am writing a story, I say that the characters often tell me what is supposed to happen next. But in our story the main characters have no idea! All we can really say is that the plot is playing out in a wonderful location full with beautiful people – something we could not have dreamed up had we tried.
We may be mystified regarding what plot turns are around the corner, but we remain confident in the subtext, and that is the faithful and encouraging love and grace of God.
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.” – Lamentations 2:22-24
Keep reading and I will continue to share how this adventure plays out. Peace and more peace, every day – DEREK
