260-plus support cancer patients at “Run For Your Life” 5K

High speed and in the lead!

Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages. He taught in their synagogues and told people the Good News about God’s kingdom. He healed all kinds of diseases and sicknesses. – Matthew 9:35

Just a quick post this morning to throw my support behind yesterday’s “Run for Your Life” 5K and Fun Run.

The annual event raises funds for the Edgecombe Cancer Support Foundation, with 100% of proceeds going to help county residents undergoing cancer treatment. In today’s healthcare climate far too many fall through the cracks – or chasms – and in consequence struggle to make ends meet.

This worthy cause works to ease the crippling financial burden of care and promote healing.

Stress over $$ exacerbates disease

It is a psychological and medical fact that healing is often disrupted by financial stress. That makes the behavior of most insurance companies and the priorities of many politicians difficult to understand.

One creative way to think of the foundation’s work is that every dollar spent to relieve financial stress lessens anxiety and promotes healing – likely resulting in multiple more dollars saved on the delivery end of care.

Giving generously is more than supporting a charity, it is a long-term investment in the ongoing health of the community. This really is win-win.

My job was simple: Max and I got to stand at an intersection (with Alice Cassanova), point the way, and encourage the runners as they came hurtling out of the “Nature Trail” and on to Saint James Street.

Alice and I – and later her husband, Bob – got to know one-another, and Max got to meet and greet a lot of new people.

Then, as the runners passed us in a blur of speed (at least that is what we imagined), we shared words of inspiration such as “you’re so fast this must be your second time around!” and “only 13 more miles to go!”

– all ages running fast!

The support from the Tarboro community was fantastic, with 260+ registered participants for the 5-K and the Fun-Run and enthusiastic volunteers all over the place. Plus Max was extra excited because at least ten new dog friends came by.

It is not too late to register your support and share a donation to help such an important community initiative. Click HERE to give.
