Who among the gods
is like you, Lord?
Who is like you—
majestic in holiness,
awesome in glory,
working wonders? Exodus 15:11
Sometime, and I probably talk about this truth quite often, beauty does not necessarily come from what is obvious but shows up when I search for it, already suspicious that something may be there.
So, there is A) keeping our eyes open and our hearts open too, and then B) searching for something meaningful when it is not necessarily so easy to perceive.
If you read my post earlier in the day you can see that we experienced very little in the way of snow here in Tarboro Sunday morning. There was ice, yes, but then just a little sleet.
By lunchtime the temperature had edged just above freezing, and it occurred to me that even though it wasn’t a classic “winter wonderland” our street may still be worth a look.
So I walked a half block down Saint Patrick to our church and back and found a number of stunning images, just by remembering that we don’t always need six inches of snow for things to begin to look magical.
There is going to be more sleet and frozen rain tonight, then a hard freeze Monday night through Tuesday morning. So I will definitely be on the lookout for additional opportunities to share photographs.
Worth the effort:
My point here is that we are often spoiled by wonder, just running into what God has given to us without needing to do anything other than pay attention. But the truth is that every day offers wonder and to spare. It is a good spiritual exercise, I believe, to not only keep our spirits open but to be actively on the lookout – because God always has more, so much more.
Even on a wet, cold, drizzle-and-sleet kind of a day when the last thing anyone is expecting is a shot in the arm from beauty and wonder.
Enjoy this gallery of photographs, and take it as a challenge to find beauty not just every day, but every waking hour of every day. Blessing and beauty and peace.
