“Freezing a Moment” and how Richly Beautiful Life is

– the azalea, the ancient trees, the pathways, the brick wall…

“Taking an image, freezing a moment, reveals how rich reality truly is.”

– Town Common from Saint Patrick

Generally, the photographs I choose to post in this blog are included to help tell the story I am sharing about our community, the church, an event, our home, or maybe the grandchildren. I am a writer first.

But this morning, and for most “Photo Friday” galleries, the pictures are the story.

So my story today is that I walk (at least two or three times each day) and that there are always views and sight lines and houses and blooming trees and plants that capture my attention. I could easily publish an entire picture book featuring photographs from just the few blocks comprising our immediate neighborhood. And I could repeat the project for winter, spring, summer and fall.

– Chinese fringe tree

A couple of weeks ago I took my Nikon DSLR out for a hike and intentionally photographed a particular area (Saint Patrick, Saint James & The Grove). But today’s collection are just moments that grabbed me while I was doing something else.

I usually go out with no intention of taking any photos. But then I am arrested by the color – like the azalea on the corner of Saint David and Church, or the vista – like the view of the Town Common, or the beauty – like the Chinese fringe tree behind the Presbyterian Church, or the way a tree or a shrub enhances an already lovely home, or the way the light bounces around the Calvary churchyard.

– taking photos is good for my soul

And I am exhilarated by the beauty, I enjoy framing the shot, I am blessed when I process the photo on my computer, and I am blessed again when I share with you.

So, “Happy Friday” everyone. Enjoy the beauty of this amazing springtime and remember to keep your eyes open to see just how rich and full life really is.
