Two “must-click” links on civility and freedom

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things. (Galatians 5:22-23)

Today’s post is going to direct you to click on two links. Please take a moment to look at them both. Because – along with the few thoughts I’ll share on this page – they combine to make what I believe is an important point about an urgent issue.

The issue is COURTESY: good manners, respect, politeness, trust, civility, consideration. It’s a subject matter that, I believe, carries huge weight in terms of securing and promoting the freedom and liberty we enjoy here in the USA. In many ways, it’s as important as the work of the NSA and its vigilance against acts of terrorism.

FIRST: Civility is the subject of my current column, “They call it civil-ization for a reason!” featured in Wake Forest Today. This is not something you can read on my blog; the article is only available at the Wake Forest Today on-line news magazine. Please check it out and share your thoughts.

SECOND: I continue the conversation, more informally, with my weekly video post (below), hosted by YouTube. To the extent that we do not treat one-another with respect, and kindness, and good manners – we erode the bedrock of freedom, because freedom is predicated on the foundation of trust and the assumption that we will treat one-another in a civil fashion without having to leverage appropriate behavior via the rule of law.

That’s why Paul pointed out that the “Fruit of the Spirit” is actually the evidence that God is transforming our lives. If there is no fruit to be seen, Jesus said in the Gospels, then we might as well cut the tree down.

LINK!!! So please check out the two links, and let me know what you think. Comments are always welcome at Wake Forest Today.

Peace – DEREK
