May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
Psalm 19:14
be pleasing in your sight,
Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
It is a well known fact that Rebekah (my amazing wife) is a natural when it comes to the screen. “The camera,” as they say, “loves her.
I remember how natural and how effective she was when WFPC launched the “video chat” series during the pandemic. Her devotional vlogs were not only a great way to stay connected, they served as a powerful outreach. With no advertising other than the church FaceBook page, some posts still reached more than 2,000 people.
And, yes, I am trying to get her to do something similar now. I understand why she was reluctant to remain in the spotlight when she first retired, but it’s been 21 months and her “platform” is long gone.
Rebekah’s unique hook is her authenticity. Very few people can talk into a camera and remain 100% themselves. But this is how she is; it’s how she lives, how she preaches, how she teaches, and how she tells her stories.
It’s also one of the reasons I’m planning my own once-a-week video.
- I want to acknowledge this unique cultural moment we’re in.
- Plus I want to get Rebekah on board because I believe there is a very real need in this space for a voice like hers.
Currently, people seem much more inclined to watch and to listen than they are to read. This is especially true of the younger generations.
Yes, good writing is still at the heart of all effective communication, but if I want to remain relevant I am going to have to consider video. The message I want to share is that important, and the need for redemption in this world is that acute.
So humor me for two and a half minutes. Take a look. I am absolutely willing to listen, to adjust, to experiment, and to make it better – DEREK
We love your blogs and read them , but also enjoy the variety of watching a video. So we vote for both and will continue to be inspired. Jane and Ray
