So that was a long drive. And we’re only in Columbus! Of course we hadn’t thought about the fact that this is a July-4th travel weekend. Lots of cars, traffic jams, snarl-ups, and lines waiting to pay tolls.
We stopped in Mt. Airy for our first break, where we enjoyed a walk through the town and lunch at Barney’s Café. That’s where we were photo-bombed by the apparition.
Even though it was a long day on busy roads, so much of the drive was spectacular in terms of scenery. I wish I could share just a few short videos from some of the highlights – America is a visual feast.

Especially the drive from North Carolina up into Virginia and then a long stretch of West Virginia and on into Ohio. Several of the bridges (especially over the Ohio) made me want to stop the truck in the road so I could take photographs.
Instead of the pictures, I have this tape running through my mind of countless miles of mountains and forests and rivers and lakes and bridges. What an amazing country we live in!
Just this one day has reinforced my commitment to get out with Rebekah and drive across the country, visiting National Parks along the way and taking our sweet time!
Now it’s just a few hundred more miles up to Midland, where we will unload the truck and enjoy some time with The A-Team and Mr. T.
It is so good to be on our way!
that’s Max, by the way, hanging out with his friends at Donna’s house while we’re out of town:

Enjoy the ride! If you and Rebekah decide to visit the National Parks, Loretta and I can give you some insight, as we traveled there last year. Magnificent God sculpture!! Have fun, be safe! God bless.

This is a route we travel often, we land near Standish about 1/2 hour north of Midland. Just thought I’d mention, traffic & construction are usually an issue no matter the day or month. That, and we stay either before or after Columbus – because we typically hit it at rush hour. We couldn’t agree more – no matter the season, most of the drive from WF covers some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere! Be safe & enjoy your family and the rest of the sights you will experience.
Looks to me like Max is having much more than you two but I’m a home body. Travel safe.
