Even so, I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun during the short life God has given them, for it is their heritage.
Ecclesiastes 5:18
Photo Friday this week is pretty much a list of highlights from a really busy week.
It is all anchored in the constant effort to clean out my parents’ house. Rebekah and I are investing several hours each day going through absolutely everything and – little by little – getting to the place where we can clean like crazy, make a few small repairs, paint a few rooms, and do the final preparations in order to bring the house to market.
I have taken, last count, at least twenty SUV loads to Goodwill, Habitat Restore, and the Rescue Mission. Not to mention the amazing job Rebekah has done listing and moving a huge number of items on “Marketplace.”
But it won’t be long before we look at each other, hit the “pause” button on the sorting then hire some “We Haul Junk” company to finish things off.
We will not be renting any “self storage” units and we will not be filling our house with stuff destined to gather dust in the attic.
Meanwhile, I am spending afternoons with mum at her place in Heritage, and working hard with the staff there to help keep things as positive as possible.
A Good Food Week!
In one enjoyable side note that always lifts my spirits, it’s been a great week for food!
And so (as I know the Internet has a genuine fondness for foodie photos) I have included images of some of my favorites (although I ate the amazing Pimento Cheese sandwiches with Heirloom tomatoes before I remembered to take a picture!).
Summertime is all about wonderful tomatoes, so any salad I served this week was improved by the Heirlooms. Then I have to give top marks to the following: “Shrimp Fettuccine Alfredo”, the “Ribs with Yellow Rice”, the “Oyster Po’ Boy with Waffle Fries”, and the fresh peaches – every day – on my morning cereal.
Through all the turmoil I want to affirm that life is good, and make it abundantly clear that Rebekah and I are both so very grateful for the goodness, and the light, and the love that is ours to share from day to day.
Peace, and I mean that in every way. In conclusion, I want to share the following interpretation of the Ecclesiastes passage – DEREK
Yes, we should make the most of what God gives, both the bounty and the capacity to enjoy it, accepting what’s given and delighting in the work. It’s God’s gift! God deals out joy in the present, the now. It’s useless to brood over how long we might live.
Ecclesiastes 5:18 (Message translation)
