A Little Glimpse into My Story

Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd using stories. He did not say anything to them without telling a story. So the words spoken by the prophet came true. He had said,

“I will open my mouth and tell stories.
I will speak about things that were hidden since the world was made.” (Matthew 13:34-35)

This post comprises a small experiment. Today, working on my new book, I read a section out loud; I do this sometimes to help me to evaluate my writing, looking for rhythm and tone and how the words sound when they work together, to see if they possibly hold any poetry.

Anyway, I was pleased. And I thought you might enjoy listening too; hence sharing this short segment. The book is a memoir, I’m around 20% of the way through, and I believe I am finally beginning to get a sense of where it is going.

This particular moment in the story comes from my 13-week sojourn hiking the Appalachian Trail. I am twenty years old, I am beginning to discover a new country, and this is a formative emotional moment in my American journey.

Three minutes. Enjoy.

  1. That sounds great! I pictured Lewis and Clark, and others, exploring this beautiful land and being captured by its vastness. I am impressed that you explored the trail and wish others would do the same to truly appreciate what God has created and
    blessed us with.
I thought of the movie with Robert Redford, “A Walk in the Woods,” I also read the book, where he desired to explore the trail…but, needless to say, your version is more personal. Keep on writing, your book sounds epic!

Yes, I often think of Lewis and Clark. I’d love to take their route up the Mississippi/Missouri and down the Columbian to Portland.
