Kitchen Table Issues

And over all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. 15 The peace of Christ must control your hearts—a peace into which you were called in one body. And be thankful people. – Colossians 3:14-15

– “write what is in front of you…..”

This morning I have little to share in the way of inspiration other than the fact that it is Sunday morning, it is another brand new day, and it is the time where our focus tends to shift toward the acknowledgment of, and worship of, God.

There is a writing adage that says, essentially, “write what you know.” Or, more informally, consider what is right in front of you.

What’s right/write in front of me at the moment is the kitchen.

I can’t help but think about the nourishment I receive here, day after day, and not only in the way of food. This is where Rebekah and I sit, right after breakfast, for our morning devotions, too. We read from the scriptures (at the moment we are in Colossians), we are a few weeks into a new book called “2000 Years of Prayer” (this week has been writings from church leaders in the 2nd Century), and we are looking at a couple of other devotional books too.

In politics they call certain things “kitchen table issues” because they are what people tend to talk about around the kitchen table and they are central to our lives. Our kitchen table issue is our ongoing relationship with God, it is where we are rooted.

Then, when we have our eyes turned toward Jesus, everything else can fall into its proper place – DEREK

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace...
