
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. – Philippians 4:6-8
One of the things I love about morning is the sense of tabula rasa or blank slate. I may have appointments or commitments and there may be things on my “to-do” list and I may even be carrying some burden with me from another day… but this morning, anything is possible.
Today, then, is going to unfold in relation to A) the particular skills and abilities I bring to the table, B) what is possible, and C) the belief and intention that I apply.
Fact is, even what is “possible” can change in response to my belief and my intention.
This may be the day that something I write goes viral, the day that people get excited about my books, the day that my new project gets picked up by a publisher. Anything is possible!
So getting up fairly early and walking Max always brings to mind this truth, and today my meditative thoughts have settled on the above passage from Philippians 4.
I chose this scripture, years ago when I started writing regular columns for the newspaper, as my guiding principle as a journalist: “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things…”
Today, then, opens up in terms of possibility in relation to the fact that – in the grace of faith – “we can do all things” (Philippians 4:13).
