It’s a beautiful Friday morning here in Tarboro. Clear and 39-degrees for my walk with Max then the promise of 69 this afternoon. Perfect for fall yard work and just enjoying the privilege of being alive.

This week’s “Photo Friday” offers a quick tour of what’s going on around Maul-Hall and our community, from landscaping to flags on the common to some exciting developments down by the Tar.

First, I want to highlight the relationship between the “We voted” photograph and Tarboro’s Field of Honor® display featuring 500 U.S. Flags. Participating in democracy is one of the most important ways we can honor veterans and our other heroes. At the same time, disrespect for the institutions that make democracy work – congress, the courts, civil authorities, a free press and religion (church, synagogue and mosque) – undermines everything the flag represents.

This is a great community and we are so glad we have landed here. So our work on the Saint Patrick Street house continues, both with Rebekah refinishing some old furniture and some ambitious plans for landscaping.

One more note: I don’t just share these pictures because they are pretty or my stories because they are entertaining. I want these posts to encourage and challenge everyone who reads them.

So please do all those good social-media things: “like” and “share” and “comment.” Who knows, maybe positive and encouraging posts can get as much attention as all the negativity that does nothing more than tear us all apart….
