Life was in him, and that life was the light for all people. The light shines in the darkness. But the darkness has not overcome the light. – John 1:4-5
I have a handful of random images from Christmas week to share today. Partially because they are great photographs, but mostly as an encouragement for everyone to show up at church for worship this morning.
Why? Because as this most challenging of years winds down, there is no better way for us to move into our tomorrows with a positive spirit than in the context of light and life! And the best place to find light and life is the local church.
Each of these photographs from the past week has something to say about our relationship to the possibilities that define our lives, the theology of promise and the fact that tomorrow can always be a beautiful and hope-filled day.
- Our six-year-old grandson walking the woods somewhere in Eastern Europe – hiking into 2026 full with life and promise!
- Sunset from our kitchen window. It may only be a couple of parking lots and Tarboro’s downtown, but this is where we live and we are here to make a difference!
- Go Tell it on the Mountain! video from Celtic Lessons and Carols at Calvary Episcopalian Church.
- Stockings on Christmas morning: Rebekah and I will always enjoy the magic and the mystery and the love-saturated surprises of gift-giving.
- Believe me, you want this Christmas brunch casserole!
- Max is excited to see his friends come over for Christmas brunch. Every relationship we cultivate with a neighbor is a step toward peace so far as we can reach out into this world.
- Light, even a few small bulbs, always completely defeats the darkness.
- Downtown Tarboro is a constant invitation for us to live in community and to love our neighbors.
