If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine; it is lethal

Now that was a big day to get us properly started on this year’s summer adventure! Waking up way too early, traffic nail-bitingly at a standstill on the way to the airport, our fabulous grandchildren bouncing off the plane, adventures at Raleigh’s most exceptional Dorothea Dix Park, driving through the mountains in torrential rains and then settling down – exhausted but happy – at our first stop in Harrisonburg.
This is obviously going to be a high-energy, full-contact, top-speed, on-the-go, empty the tank trip. Rebekah and I will be tapping into all the reserves we have (and them some), doing our best to keep up and then hopefully returning to Tarboro relatively intact!
Here are Tuesday’s photos. I hope you can tap into the fun and the love. These are great kids! – DEREK

Best grandparents! I am sure you will grow younger on this adventure! Life is one grand adventure and you are living it!!
It is a blast so far – but I am definitely feeling my new age (and it is not “younger”).
We are blessed and grateful. I just need to remember that letting a five-year-old steer the bumper car is not always wise). https://derekmaul.blog/2026/07/10/best-day-ever-at-hershey-park/
