the simple message of the Gospel of Love

With too much to do today, and too many places to go, I’ll simply let my beautiful new granddaughter, Rebekah Mae, illustrate the central point of yesterday’s blog (DOMA). To date, well over 1,100 people have understood the point of the post, and just a couple of people seem unable to.

The quote below is how I answered one chain of misdirection that implied that I valued the idea of divorce over offering support and biblical counsel.

The post is about not allowing the smokescreen of pointing the finger at gay marriage obscure the real danger to marriage in America, which is the absence of self-giving love at the center of our lives. Simple point. Can’t see how anyone could (or would want to) argue against putting that kind of love front and center at home? That’s support and biblical counsel… and it’s always been our focus… and has always been a better answer than divorce!

My prayer is that my lovely granddaughter will grow up in a home where both parents love one-another with self-giving love, and that she will live in a world where people have moved beyond assigning blame to any and every target that could possible distract attention away from our own shortcomings and our resistance to change, accountability, healing, and love.

The Gospel of Love is a simple message. The point of this blog is also simple, and pretty much the same every day. Let’s live like we mean it, and let’s invite Jesus to be our friend and guide in the process.

In love, and because of love – DEREK
