“Food, in the end, in our own tradition, is something holy. It’s not about nutrients and calories. It’s about sharing. It’s about honesty. It’s about identity.” – Louise Fresco
“We all eat, and it would be a sad waste of opportunity to eat badly.” – Anna Thomas
Here we are, exactly halfway into our Krakow adventure, and it’s time for a little focus on food. I shared a couple of photos the first day but have been saving the rest since then.
We’re eating out a lot because A) our Airbnb doesn’t really have a kitchen, B) it fits into the exploring we’ve been doing, and C) Andrew and Alicia love it!
Saturday evening, however, it wasn’t the “A-Team” we took out but my friend John Hess and his daughter Selena. Rebekah and I walked along the Vistula River a little over a mile and met them at “ZaKladka – Bistro de Cracovie.“
It’s a French bistro with a Michelin plaque outside, and the place lived up to the promise. I was self-restrained enough not to take photos of our guests’ food (as a foodie I will admit it wasn’t easy!) but everything that landed on our side of the table was delectable, and presented beautifully.
We decided to sample things we knew we would not get at home, and in consequence selected the rabbit with goat cheese for appetizers, an amazing Cod in a cream almond sauce for Rebekah’s entree, and Wild Boar Tenderloin for me. I forgot to take a photograph of the creme puff for dessert, but believe me, it was delicious!
In general, the food here in Krakow has been really good, and also – unfortunately – not nearly so inexpensive as advertised in the travel guides (what’s that all about, Rick Steves?)!
So here is a selection. Appetizers, entrees, breakfasts, coffee and even a few desserts.
Enjoy… well, at least, vicariously! – DEREK
