So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31
Looking back over the past couple of weeks I have noted a couple of interesting trends concerning this blog: 1) Record numbers of visitors have been stopping by to read these posts, and 2) The content has consistently leaned to the serious and the deep.
Also, there has been almost nothing in the way of food!
So this morning should both lighten the tone and rectify the food deficit with a series of photos from the past ten days. If you read this column often you already know the following: Not only do I enjoy cooking (when I have time and no pressure), but Rebekah absolutely loves me cooking for her.
This old house has a fabulous kitchen. One serendipity regarding the level of tear-out and restoration that had to be done was the commensurate opportunity it gave us to reinvent every space according to our imagination and design.
Rebekah created this kitchen with two specific goals in mind: me cooking and her enjoying the fruits of my fun. It brings me a lot of joy to work in this space.
I am by no means a chef, but I am always learning and I am patient. Recently, I have been especially pleased with some of the results. The dishes are labelled in the photo gallery, and if there is anything you want more detail on just mention it in the comments.
When preparing dishes like the delicious quiche (it involves cottage cheese, by the way) it really helps to have a connection with a neighbor kid/entrepreneur who keeps chickens!
My taste, as you can tell from the photos below, is very eclectic. I try to prepare a variety of great foods while keeping the calories and the carbs at a reasonable level.
Beyond grateful:
Looking at all this reminds me of how fortunate we are to live here in the United States and to have all these resources available. I never want to take this blessing for granted.
So I will finish this post with one of my pre-meal blessings: “Lord God, we are so grateful for this food, for this home, for this community and for each other. We are humbled by this bounty and eternally grateful for every blessing we are privileged to enjoy. Amen.”
